Kaleb is a Senior at Start High School in Toledo Ohio. He has a quiet demeanor. I am recognizing Kaleb mainly for his athletic abilities. This year I am following the school\’s activities as a school photographer for the yearbook, due to COVID closing in-person instruction and the restrictions put in place for attending athletic events. I have learned a lot about Kaleb these last few months. During his Freshman year, he tore his ACL. He played Basketball his Sophomore year injured. As a Senior he has received All-City and All-District honors in Football as a Wide Receiver. As I write this description today, the Basketball team is preparing for the State Tournament. Kaleb plays point guard and shooting guard. He had to take over the point guard duties after his childhood friend fell victim to gun violence. Kaleb is averaging over 20 points per game. He is a team leader. As a Junior, he sat on the bench and averaged 4 points per game. He was playing behind a Senior class that received a lot of honors. Kaleb knew his time was coming and he studied and learned from this class. He had an extensive article in the local newspaper The Toledo Blade. He is in the running to be the athlete of the week through the local sports network BCSN. Kaleb also has lost a brother to a car accident. The grief of the loss of a true brother and a close friend that was like a brother will be a lifelong challenge. An interesting fact about Kaleb outside of school is that he would go to local festivals and join his Mom. His Mom would do face painting and Kaleb would make balloon animals. Kaleb is on track to graduate this year.`
